One man is in custody and another is at large after a Saturday car chase that began in Monroe County, ended in a crash in Wayne County and led to drug and gun charges.
Kevin Taylor, 22, and Khalif Pinnix, 44, both of Newark, New Jersey, are charged with drug possession with intent to deliver and other offenses in connection with the 6:18 p.m. chase that began in Tobyhanna Township, proceeded north on Interstate 380 and ended in a crash on Route 435 in Wayne County, Pocono Mountain Regional police said.
Taylor is in Monroe County jail with bail denied because he is considered a flight risk, according to court papers. Police are looking for Pinnix.
The incident began with police helping the Atlantic City prosecutor’s office on a New Jersey felony theft investigation. Police saw a suspect leave a Tobyhanna Township residence and get into a vehicle.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, it sped away with officers in pursuit. After the crash, Pinnix, the driver, ran into nearby woods while police took Taylor into custody. Police found more than $57,000 in cash and drug delivery paraphernalia in the vehicle.
This led to a search of a residence in the 100 block of Skytop Drive in Tobyhanna Township.
Police found $34,828, “a large amount of” stolen merchandise, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana in the residence. Police also found $20,551 in one vehicle and a stolen handgun in another vehicle parked there.
Police expect to charge a third person for the stolen gun.
