HOLLAND, MI — A report of stolen vehicles in Kent County ended up reaching Holland in neighboring Ottawa County early Sunday morning.

The investigation involving police from multiple agencies from two counties resulted in two suspects being apprehended by officers and the recovery of a stolen vehicle and two handguns.

At 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 22, Holland police officers responded to report of several stolen vehicles leaving the Kent County area heading into the Holland area. Officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department and deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office passed along information to Holland police officers.

Holland police officers saw several vehicles driving recklessly traveling on Washington Avenue from U.S. 31, according to a news release issued by Holland police. Officers attempted to get into position to stop the vehicles, police said in the release.

One of the vehicles, police describe as stolen, then pulled off the road and two subjects fled on foot, police said. Both subjects were in possession of handguns and one threw a handgun prior to being caught, according to police. The other subject was still in possession of a handgun when taken into custody, police said.

One suspect was handed over to the Grand Rapids Police Department. The other suspect was taken to Ottawa County Jail for expected charges of carrying a concealed weapon, receiving and concealing stolen property and resisting and obstructing an officer, police said in the news release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Holland detectives.
