Outbreak

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — There will be no transportation services for students in the Lower Merion School District for the rest of the week due to a coronavirus outbreak in the district’s Transportation Department.

District Superintendent Robert Copeland said in a letter to the school community that transportation will not be available through Friday.

All district schools will continue to work under the hybrid learning model through the rest of the week despite the transportation issue.

“The number of affected individuals (those confirmed and presumed positive and their close contacts) in the Transportation Department is such that we do not have enough drivers and bus aides available to run all of our routes,” Copeland said. “In light of this, the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH) has advised we “not wait” to shut down the department. We are working with the county to ensure that all Transportation Department staff get tested for COVID-19 as quickly as possible.”

Students who can’t get to school due to the transportation service suspension should join their classes via technology to the extent possible

Additionally, Copeland said absences due to a lack of transportation will be excused.

Teachers will work with students who cannot make it to schools to provide asynchronous makeup work.
