Isaac Okoro found out his NBA destination on Wednesday night when the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted the Auburn forward with the fifth choice in the annual selections. Then Okoro had a surprise for his parents, Godwin and Gloria Okoro, at his draft party.

First, Okoro presented his father with a Range Rover.

In the back of the new car were a Chanel handbag and a Rolex watch for his mother.

According to the NBA’s rookie salary scale for the 2020-21 season, the No. 5 pick in this year’s draft gets a two-year, guaranteed contract with team options for two more seasons. The salary for the slot is $5,334,100 for this season and $5,600,600 for next season. That doesn’t mean Okoro will sign for those exact figures. Rookies can be signed for as little as 80 percent of the scale and as much as 120 percent of the scale.

ISAAC OKORO DRAFTED FIFTH OVERALL BY CAVALIERS

Okoro enters the NBA after one season at Auburn, during which he averaged 12.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game before the coronavirus pandemic cut his freshman season short.

Okoro earned a spot on the All-SEC second team and received All-Defensive Team and All-Freshman Team recognition in the SEC.

The 29th player drafted from Auburn, Okoro went quicker in the NBA Draft than any former Tigers other than Chuck Person in 1986 and Chris Morris in 1988. Both those players were No. 4 picks. Charles Barkley in 1985 also was a No. 5 draft pick.
