CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ —
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB), a leader in the global specialty chemicals industry, announced today that it will serve as a founding member of ZETA, a first-of-its-kind U.S.-based coalition committed to achieving 100 percent electric vehicle (EV) sales by 2030.

ZETA will advocate for national policies to enable the full adoption of EVs throughout the light-, medium-, and heavy-duty sectors by 2030, which will support the creation of new jobs, secure American global EV manufacturing leadership, and significantly reduce carbon pollution.

“The U.S. is tracking behind other countries in driving the adoption of EVs and, as a result, the benefits EVs contribute to the environment,” said Eric Norris, Albemarle President, Lithium. “As an industry leader and major U.S. producer of lithium, Albemarle is committed to powering the potential of clean energy and is excited to join ZETA’s mission in positioning the U.S. to support a clean and sustainable environment.”

The organization is calling for the following five key policy pillars:

  1. Outcome-driven consumer EV incentives. Point-of-sale consumer incentives drive adoption, provide cost reductions and achieve real results in pushing transportation electrification. These incentives should be widely available to all EV models until there is substantial uptake.
  2. Emissions performance standards enabling full electrification by 2030. Emission targets are a key piece of protecting public health and sending the correct market signals to support and accelerate the transition to zero emission transportation.
  3. Infrastructure investments. Strong federal charging infrastructure investments will drive the electric transportation transition and ensure that the United States is leading the way in a clean recovery where everyone is better off.
  4. Early retirement incentives for legacy vehicles. Even if every vehicle purchased moving forward is electric, without further action, full turnover of the U.S. vehicle inventory will take a generation. Incentivizing early retirements while encouraging EV adoption will speed the transition and meet the urgency of the moment.
  5. Federal leadership and cooperation with sub-national entities. Federal support should invest in research and development, provide an aligned vision for electrification, and ensure local leaders are empowered with the expertise and resources to support full vehicle electrification.

“For the first time in a generation, transportation is the leading emitter of U.S. carbon emissions. By embracing EVs, federal policymakers can help drive innovation, create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and improve air quality and public health,” said Joe Britton, Executive Director of ZETA. “ZETA’s formation recognizes a pivotal moment for national leadership and reflects the will of the growing clean transportation sector.”

ZETA is comprised of a diverse, non-partisan group of 28 founding members including, Albemarle Corporation, ABB Inc., Con Edison, Duke Energy, Pacific Gas & Electric, Rivian, Salt River Project, Tesla, Uber and Volta, among others. For more information, please visit www.zeta2030.org.

About Albemarle
Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB), headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., is a global specialty chemicals company

…...

The Zero Emission Transportation Association, also known as ZETA, was announced Tuesday via press release.

The group is a new organization advocating for national policies that will enable 100% electric vehicle sales by 2030. It contains familiar green energy companies such as Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA), Rivian and Lucid Motors.

Why ZETA: Zeta is the first group of its kind pushing to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. The group aims to create hundreds of thousands of jobs, secure American global EV manufacturing leadership, dramatically improve public health and significantly reduce carbon pollution.

What’s The Plan? Zeta has five key goals:

  • 1. Give consumers incentives toward EV purchases.
  • 2. Create an emissions standard for full electrification by 2030.
  • 3. Invest in charging infrastructure.
  • 4. Accelerate and secure domestic manufacturing.
  • 5. Federal support for R&D and other activities.

Benzinga’s Take: Overall, ZETA looks to achieve 100% electric vehicle sales by 2030. While it seems like an ambitious goal, many gas-powered vehicles would still remain on the road, as used cars would still make up a majority of the fleet.

But this first step is needed to eventually eliminate gas-powered vehicles all together.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Today, 28 businesses—which employ hundreds of thousands of workers across all 50 states—launched the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA), a new organization advocating for national policies that will enable 100% electric vehicle sales throughout the light-, medium-, and heavy-duty sectors by 2030.

ZETA is the first industry coalition of its kind calling for an accelerated transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, secure American global EV manufacturing leadership, dramatically improve public health and significantly reduce carbon pollution.

“The next decade will be critical in implementing federal policies that accelerate the transition to zero emissions vehicles and help address these problems head-on. The clean vehicle sector already boasts hundreds of thousands of jobs but, if we encourage its growth, the United States can decisively win the global race to develop a new clean transportation economy and employ hundreds of thousands of Americans right here at home.”

Specifically, ZETA is calling for five key policy pillars that can, in aggregate, put America on the pathway to full EV adoption by 2030:

1. Outcome-driven consumer EV incentives. Point-of-sale consumer incentives drive adoption, provide cost reductions and achieve real results in pushing transportation electrification. In addition, incentivizing early retirements while encouraging EV adoption will speed the transition and meet the urgency of the moment.

2. Emissions / performance standards enabling full electrification by 2030.

4. Domestic manufacturing. We should not only accelerate U.S. transportation electrification, but also work to ensure that we secure domestic economic growth and leadership in EV manufacturing. Federal policies must encourage job creation and economic activity across the entire EV supply chain and lifecycle, from critical materials to vehicles.

5. Federal leadership and cooperation with sub-national entities. Federal support should invest in research and development, provide an aligned vision for electrification, and ensure local leaders are empowered with the expertise and resources to support full vehicle electrification.

The ZETA Education Fund, an affiliated group focused on educating the public on the environmental and social benefits and opportunities associated with broad EV adoption, will launch concurrently.

About ZETA

ZETA brings together those who support meeting the goal of 100% electric vehicle sales by 2030. This diverse non-partisan group coordinates public education efforts

Motor Vehicle Industry Response on COVID-19
Pandemic

COVID-19, a novel (new) coronavirus, was
first detected in December of 2019. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO)
declaredit to be a
global pandemic. By March 13, COVID-19 was
declareda national emergency by President Donald Trump. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has since
expandedon the national emergency declaration in the United States to provide HOS relief for commercial vehicle drivers transporting emergency aid.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has encouraged many
preventative measures, but local and state government officials and public health departments, in consultation with federal officials, have been tasked with making decisions based on
local conditions. Many states have issued
stay at home orders. The federal government has taken additional actions to
provide up to $2.3 trillion (
H.R.748) in loans to support the economy, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was directed to
delay the federal REAL ID deadline.

Below are a selection of news releases and announcements regarding the effects of coronavirus on the motor vehicle community.

NMVTIS
State Web Interface (SWI) – Instant Title Verification Using the VIN Search
Feature

April 28, 2020, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
(ET)

Before a jurisdiction issues a title
or other ownership document or record, the SWI can provide information to help
the jurisdiction determine whether the ownership documentation presented with
the application are valid. The information supports jurisdictions’ titling
processes for both new and used vehicles. The Anti-Car Theft Act requires each
jurisdiction to perform an instant title verification check before issuing a
title to an applicant claiming to have purchased the vehicle from an individual
or entity in another jurisdiction. The SWI VIN search feature can be used to
satisfy this legal requirement. In addition, the NMVTIS best practice is that
jurisdictions perform an inquiry before issuing a title or other ownership
document or record, whether or not the applicant claims to have purchased the
vehicle in another jurisdiction.
