Mesa police say an officer was struck by a minivanon Thursday evening in a neighborhood north of Baseline and Gilbert roads.
The patrol officer, who has not been identified, was directing traffic around an accident when a minivan which was unrelated to the initial crash struck him.
The officer was transported to the hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening, according to Mesa Police Department spokesperson Jason Flam.
The reasons for the crash are unknown, but police are investigating.
“At this point we do not believe impairment played a factor in the crash,” said Flam.
