An armed suspect on the run was stopped on the Brent Spence Bridge Friday afternoon, according to Cincinnati Police.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle with felony warrants at Central Avenue and Elizabeth Street in the West End at approximately 2:45 p.m., police said. Members of the Cincinnati Police Department’s Gun Crimes Task Force initiated the stop.

Devin Lovett, 30, was operating the vehicle and initially stopped but then fled from officers, police said.

A brief vehicle pursuit ensued. Police say Lovett drove past a barricade on West Eighth Street and attempted to enter Interstate 75 southbound, a route currently closed due to a Wednesday crash and fire.

Lovett was forced to stop because of the closure, and attempted to discard a handgun. He then submitted to arrest without further incident, according to police.

Lovett is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, having weapons while under disability and disregarding police signals, officials said.

The Brent Spence Bridge has been closed to traffic since Wednesday after a vehicle crash and fire involving two semi-trucks, including one hauling potassium hydroxide and an unknown amount of diesel fuel.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the closure could last into December.

“We are looking at weeks, perhaps more than a month,” Beshear said Thursday. “We have repairs that will take weeks to execute.”

The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge was also closed due to drivers not following the 11-ton limit, although police said the bridge would reopen to non-commercial traffic Friday evening.
