A 47-year-old Rhode Island man who ran from a truck after getting into an altercation with the driver was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday in Swansea.
Just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Massachusetts State Police troopers responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a truck on Interstate 195 in Swansea.
“Preliminary investigation by responding troopers indicates that a 47-year-old Pawtucket, R.I., man, who was a passenger in a 2003 Dodge Ram, became involved in an altercation with the driver,” state police said.
The truck was being driven by a 51-year-old Providence man and heading westbound on I-195, state police said.
The driver pulled into the westbound breakdown lane and the passenger got it.
“The passenger then ran across all three westbound lanes and onto the eastbound side, where he was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup operated by a 21-year-old Lincoln, R.I., man,” authorities said.
Troopers found the victim in the road and performed CPR. He died at the scene.
Both drivers remained at the scene following the crash. The Ram had an additional passenger, a 33-year-old Providence man. There were no other injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
