A 56-year-old pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle in Ventura Friday night, officials said.

The incident was reported around 8:25 p.m. near the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Telegraph Road, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The crossing is near the city of Ventura Fire Department’s Station No. 3 on Telegraph.

The female victim was transported by an ambulance using lights and sirens, with a firefighter reportedly along to provide assistance. Her condition is unknown at this time, police said.

A preliminary investigation found the woman had just exited a bus on the north side of the street and was crossing the road in the middle of the block. A vehicle nearly struck her as she crossed eastbound lanes, but she was later hit by the person who contacted authorities.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained on scene and cooperated with police, authorities said. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the driver’s condition during the crash. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
